KALEE 11 SPECIAL MODEL T PROJECTOR with dual VITAPHONE/PHOTOPHONE SOUND

Title

KALEE 11 SPECIAL MODEL T PROJECTOR with dual VITAPHONE/PHOTOPHONE SOUND

Description

This projector is the No.2 of a pair which were installed in the Electric Palace, Bridport. It is thought to have spent all of its working life in that cinema. The model T was produced, somewhat late, to counter the problem exhibitors were having with films being distributed as either Vitaphone - sound reproduced via a 16" flat disc or Photophone - the newly developed photographed optical sound. Having a model T permitted cinemas to play both sound systems giving them a greater range of product to rent. The disk operation was particularly cumbersome and problematic and the optical system with the sound track on the film soon found greater favour both with exhibitors and audiences. This is one of a few of these grand old projectors to be seen now.
