LIESEGANG EPIDIASCOPE
Title
LIESEGANG EPIDIASCOPE
Subject
This Epidiascope, built in the 1930sin Dusseldorf, was owned by a person whose father lived in Hengelo, Holland. His father was the chief engineer in a factory in the town and as a birthday treat, borrowed this Epidiascope to give his son a special slide show. The day of the birthday was 10th May, 1940 - the day Nazi Germany invaded Holland. Consequently the machine was never returned to the factory.
The father and mother were deported to Germany, the son looked after by friends and the epidiascope hidden away. It is thought that during the occupation, the Epidiascope was used by the Dutch resistance for their activities, training and reconnaissance.
Father and Mother survived the war and returned to Hengelo and the family was reunited. In later years the son came to England to live at Portishead, and brought the Epidiascope with him.
