Description

The Curzon paper Archive consists of hundreds of papers documenting the cinema’s history and operation. There is some material dating back to the 1920’s and 30’s and comprehensive material from 1997 onwards. This includes documents relating to the community campaign to save the cinema in 1996; papers relating to the day-to-day operation of the cinema such as records of ticket sales, confectionary stocks and sales, staff wages, contracts, rotas, newsletters and daily audience figures. There are comprehensive records of Management papers, minutes of meetings, strategic plans, marketing and fund-raising projects, financial records, architectural designs and plans for restoration projects, publicity material, press cuttings, cinema programmes, photographs and correspondence. The material in the Archive documents a historic Cinema at the heart of its community and the development of a Community Enterprise, and would be of interest to social and community historians as well as those researching cinema and the arts.
